Not really. He's primarily known for being the singer on 2 songs(HOTRS and Spill The Wine). But they're great songs.

Those are two of the most well known but there are many more. The Animals had 14 Top 40 singles in the US in 4 years including "We Gotta Get Out of This Place", "Monterey", "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood", "It's My Life" and "Sky Pilot".

A big one. The fact that he is underrated and overlooked is a testament to how good the British Invasion was. Animals, War, and solo career are really impressive. Classic voice.

It probably depends on how old you are. I'm almost 67 and Eric Burdon"s songs were cutting edge during my early years and way different than the Top 40 (bubble gum) artists I had to listen to. FM radio was still in its infancy.

The Animals were really good in my opinion. The Beatles (big fan) had the pop sound, but the Animals had a raw Caucasian blues sound unlike any other bands that we were hearing on this this side of the pond.

You're right. He was a little before my time, but they definitely had more than one hit.

I still wouldn't put him on The Beatles/Elvis tier, but definitely ahead of a lot of other frontmen from his era.

Don't confuse The Animals w/"Eric Burdon & The Animals". The latter was actually EB solo, but the label insisted on him using the Animals moniker for marketing purposes. The great tracks are all by the original band.

I'm sorry, but I just can't trust any poster w/"Mingo" in his screen name.
