My oldest brother is 39 and RHCP is way more his day than your day. Seriously. If you're 27 RHCP is a terrible terrible answer. If you're 23, it's a ri-goddamn-cockulously terrible answer.

RHCP was putting out albums before you were born. Please, for the love of all things sacred, tell me you have a better answer.

I'm going with Foo Fighters, they've been represented throughout my life pretty much, at least the parts where I was conscious of music.

For My Generation it pretty much has to be The Who.
Seriously - too many good bands in the early seventies to pick one as THE band of the times, especially with the Beatles just removed from the equation.

28 here. My pick is Foo Fighters. Runner up Built to Spill but they aren't very mainstream.

Agree. Although I never put the Beach Boys in quite the same category as the other three.

39 here (i think)
i'm going to have to say NIN (nine inch nails) only because a lot of club music/industrial music was on the airwaves when i was an older teenager/young adult. moving from punk to this new sound from nine inch nails, KMFDM, Skinny Puppy, Ministry, Front 242, RevCo, Pigface, etc.
Nine Inch Nails weren't the first but i think they had the longest staying power through the 90's and it seems like i heard this type of music everywhere for a while.
