If you love the type of music that you and I do, there really is no better place to be. There's somebody I like playing every night of the week (if not in Austin, then within an hour) and they are often free shows. Ray Wylie Hubbard played a free show last night and Turnpike Troubadours are playing a free one on October 5. If they're not playing, you're likely to run into some of these guys at a handful of bars downtown. It's awesome.
I spend pretty much all my free time on shows but I can't think of anything I'd rather do.
