I was watching this Mark Knopfler on Guitars and something he said struck me.
BTW, if you haven't watched this video it's fantastic.

“If you end up with a boring miserable life because you listened to your mom, your dad, your teacher, your priest, or some guy on television telling you how to do your shite, then you deserve it.”

“The illusion of freedom will continue as long as it's profitable to continue the illusion. At the point where the illusion becomes too expensive to maintain, they will just take down the scenery, they will pull back the curtains, they will move the tables and chairs out of the way and you will see the brick wall at the back of the theater.”

A few gems by David Lee Roth:
“I don’t know if I will go down in history, but I will go down on your big sister!”
“I used to have a drug problem...but now I can afford it.”
“The reason the music critics like Elvis Costello is because they all look like him.”

Jon Landau: "I have seen the future of Rock & Roll, and it is Bruce Springsteen."
Leonard Cohen from his speech at the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame 2008: "I'm reminded of the prophetic statement of Jon Landau in the early seventies. He said: 'I've seen the future of Rock & Roll, and it is not Leonard Cohen'."

Yeah, I took that to heart, because when he said that, he was talking about using different guitars and how they influence feeling of a song.
I started trying out different guitars, from my norm of telecaster variations, and I think it has payed off in my song writing and the way that I play.
I love Mark Knopfler's touch and his song writing, and I absolutely steal from him, but he is more of a classy dude and I try to be more primal
as he ends that interview, he tries to emphasize that what he works on is the most basic things.
