Weezer's 20th Album - Out Now

Weezer has released its 20th studio album today, The Gold Album.
I've given it a couple of listens and am liking it a lot. I'm a pretty big Weezer fan, but don't like their whole catalog. They put out some great albums then can put out some real stinkers. Blue and Pinkerton are great, but I didn't really like their output until Everything Will Be Alright In the End and the White Album. I also liked Ok Human and Van Weezer. The SZNS album series was a novel idea but it was pretty awful overall IMO. This new album has more of a Pinkerton vibe...so if you are a fan of that one, you may like this one.
Full album is on youtube.

I'm sure there'll be at least one or two great ones. I'm seeing them in a couple of weeks, they never disappoint. Sort of sneaky one of the greatest artists of the past 30 years and have managed to stay at least quasi-relevant with young people.

I may go see them in October. Saw them on the blue planet tour a couple years ago. It was an awesome show. They opened with the final 3 songs of EWBAITE (one of my favorite groups of songs by them),did all of blue, most of pinkerton, and a few others.
Rivers is obsessed with this and spends a lot of time trying to create content for tiktok that will catch their attention. He leans hard into stuff when it catches on...like "Go Away" getting into the Billboard charts a few months ago, even though that song came out 13 years ago. Something similar happened with "Island in the Sun" a few years ago.

I'll give you credit for listening through all 20 records to have an opinion on each!

There are more than a few gems within the SZNS records IMO.
I also don’t think there’s a complete clunker of an album in their catalog. Certainly some are way better than others, but I have at least 3 songs in my all time favorites from each album.
ETA: this latest album is really good imo. Definitely a throw back to their 90’s sound. “We Might As Well Be Strangers” might have best the chorus they’ve produced in a very long time.

A polarizing take, and I can totally understand why because so many great records were released in the 90s, but I think the blue album is the best rock record of the 90s. It's perfect IMO. But dammit did they go on to release some duds after Matt Sharp left the band. This new one is a good throw back to that classic Weezer sound. Everything WIll Be Alright In the End is my favorite Weezer record post-Maladroit. This new gold album might be second. It's probably between this one and the white album for that second spot.

I am going to see them in October in Nashville. Got VIP tickets and will be up front at the stage.

Saw them twice, once as a teenager for the Green Album, and once at Coachella after Make Believe
They were very good live both times. The first time they played this crazy extended version of Only In Dreams. It was amazing.
