So which of these could happen? And watch your step, if you falsely get my hopes up on two of these, I'll rip your face off in front of your fricking grandmother.

The third, I'll kick you in the groin.

Doc, how's it looking? Update us on who out of these would be possibilities and which ones are pipe dreams

He doesn't know. He has zero pull there. He also threw one of their prominent employees under the bus.

Do you mean the funky Meters? Because The Meters aren't playing the Varsity

Why not? They play places like Tips or HOB or is there something weird about them and the places they play that I'm not aware of?

That's the funky Meters (Porter, Neville, Batiste, Stoltz). I could see them playing.

The Meters (with the original lineup of Porter,Neville,Nocentilli, and Modeliste) are pretty much done. If they were to reunite it would be an event far greater than The Varsity. Their reunion show at Howlin Wolf a few Jazz Fests back had tickets going for over $500.

Modest mouse isn't a pipe dream

And here's the deal, even if Alex told me who he's got coming etc, I wouldn't leak it here and betray his trust big dog.

He reads this board every day (today) and said the suggestions from everyone are helpful

Not a single one of them was helpful?

I guess it's Molly Ringwalds and Chee-Weez answers that would've been helpful

You're thinking of the old booking guy there

Bowen has proved that you can book good music and still pack the house

Ok, then why is it that when people express who they would like as possibilities to play that venue, none of the suggestions helped?

Some were far fetched, but others were very doable and would bring in people

Has he? Outside of the Arctic Monkeys I'd say it's been pretty run-of-the-mill bookings for a college town, even a bit underwhelming given the size of the city. Other college cities like Athens and Austin blow it out of the water as far as live music goes. frick you could even throw in Oxford to the conversation.

I don't blame the booker of the Varsity though. He does a decent job on other gigs. I blame Baton Rouge.

Eta: actually very underwhelming

Bowen's too busy booking garbage like the defotones, bush, and POD when he needs to be booking real gangstas

BR is a town that has people who appreciate good music, but there's also a large percentage of people who don't. There's a large anti-culture anti intellectual anti art demographic.

I've been to at least 10 shows in there in the past year and a half.

Before that I've stepped in the building 5 times total.

Oxford's music scene sucks arse. The lyric has 3 - 4 concerts a month. They had a good thing going a few years ago but it fell off.
