David Lee Roth with Van Halen = authentic rock band
Sammy Hagar with Van Halen = Squeezing blood from a rock by the record company.

Like I've said before, I'd rather watch Van Halen sing "Happy Trails" for 2 hours than see a Van Hagar concert.

For the music, Van Halen with Roth is a bit better.
For lead vocals, Hagar is way better. Would loved to have seen what they would have put out if Hagar had been with them from 1978-1984.
And for the folks that only think of Sammy from 'I Can't Drive 55' and the late 80's Van Halen with the hair metal type sound and ballads, go back and check out some late 70's and early 80's Hagar and the old Montrose stuff. I love playing 'Rock Candy' and 'Bad Motor Scooter' to this day.
