For everyone down voting, please post the absolute best Vampire Weekend song you can think of and prove me wrong.

I'm a Vampire Weekend fan as much as the next guy but that I don't think "Step" deserves to be regarded as anything more than an acceptable modern setting of Pachelbel's Canon.
I get the reference based on the chord progression but I don't follow your overall point. The song has a sublime melody and is excellently executed.

Ive always dug the underlying afro beat influence you can hear in their first two records.
I saw them a few years ago live and enjoyed it.

Isn't it a bit of an oxymoron to claim to be able to prove that an opinion is true?
The McRib is the best fast food sandwich. Prove me wrong!

Yes but you know what I mean. And my original post I. This thread was harsh and I don't want to sound like a hater. If I can find some songs of theirs I like, I would be open to listening to them more. I just haven't heard any

Maybe I should smoke some dope and try listening again.

If you don't like these, then vampire weekend will just never be for you.
and that's cool, I can totally see how some wouldn't like it.

I actually saw them perform in 2008 or so before I had any idea who they were. They played at Tulane on the steps of the lbc (student union) one afternoon and there couldn't have been more than 100 people there. I just happened to be throwing the football on the quad, now I wish I would have given them more attention lol

There self titled draws a lot from that album. I'm sure you can see that. That being said, I enjoy A-punk and its video.

People are probably down voting you because your posts read like music is absolutely objective and your taste is the truth. I like, don't love, VW. You don't. Both are fine, but it's not like I will be able to post a song or pie chart that proves they are objectively good.

Vampire Weekend is Ryan Adams' favorite band if i'm not mistaken.

they dumped the gossip girl schtick for the last album and it worked imo, mvotc is excellent and demonstrates a lot of maturation in their writing and arrangement approach.
they have it, perfectly fine band if you ask me and i'm glad that they do what they do. as a bonus, my kids love their songs and i'm for anything that makes them engage acceptable music.

Hah! I wasn't going to admit that, but a large part of my fondness for VW is probably that my wife and kids also enjoy them.... so we can listen to them on roadtrips.
That being said, my kids have pretty good taste in music for 8 and 11, though they do like alot of pop stuff as well.. but hell... I like a lot of pop, too.
