At this point I'd rather go to a UM show if I had to, but am not a fan of either.

Last WSP show I went to was very, very boring.

Last UM show I went to gave me a headache.

That tends to happen when you have to sit next to a group of 14-15 year olds smoking swisher sweet cigars they got someone's older brother to buy for them.

lol, there's some truth there. i remember the first time i saw herring with WSP (on TV), and i was waiting for the solo to come, just to see if he was the guy who would finally light a fire under their asses. then the moment came, and it was....the same 'ol same 'ol. it's almost like, structurally speaking, herring was stuck in a box. the more i try to envision it, the more i realize that "competent guitar solo" and "WSP song" don't go hand-in-hand.

saw UM my one & only time about 6 months ago, and they buried every WSP show i ever saw combined...

Spaulding you ever give that Chilly a listen?

Yeah, for Panic it wasn't bad. It held my interest, but certainly wasn't blown away by it. But, it by no means was garbage. So I'll give it that

Umphreys is really talented. They just choose to play cheezy music. They could play good music if they wanted to like their jam collab with the biscuits at camp in 2013.

Wsp just isnt talented at all

Just that Herring isn't the best fit with WSP. When he is playing with side projects or other musicians his style meshes a lot more fluently. Plus just the fact that it is Herring and not Mikey playing makes it less attractive imo.

Umphrey's McGee makes far more interesting music. I'm not much of a fan, but I can at least respect these guys as they make an effort to be something other than just another jamband.

My parents actually went to the Umphreys show at the Civic. My dad said it was a good show. Take it for what it's worth, but my dad is a big rock fan and saw most of the greats (LZ, PF, Jimi, Steely Dan, BOC, etc) in their heyday.
