Than the 70’s and 80’s based on the movement over the last decade or so for the LGBTQ community? I believe so. I also have to admit after seeing the movie obviously we all know the popular songs they had from sporting event but never knew about the range he had until I looked into their music and other songs they had.

Well, this explains why this thread is so stupid.

Don’t be that internet guy I just found interest after the movie in hearing more of their songs. Now I appreciate them even more. My main point was suggesting that because being gay wasn’t as accepted then as it is now they might have been even larger today.

Considering how big they were when Freddie died, they already were & would've continued to be global stars regardless of the LGBT movement. That's my point.

being gay is a nice storyline for people who care about irrelevant shite like that but when it comes to musical artists, being gay isn't going to get you far if you aren't talented. There are thousands of gay musical acts out there today that no one knows of because they're not good at music. Queen was a world renowned musical act, them being gay wouldn't have made them bigger today simply on the back of their sexual preference.

They have a gay dude as a lead singer now and if that movie hadn't come out they wouldn't really be a blip on the public's consciousness.

Kids don't get their music from the radio anymore like we did in Queen's day. No, they wouldn't be bigger today. And a lot of us had no idea Freddie was gay, even though it should've been obvious.

The only thing that might make them bigger today is the dearth of talented acts to compete with them for ticket and album sales. They'd be the most talented act in the world if they were transported to the present time. The competition was a lot stiffer back then.

while that's true I can see it working both ways. Nowadays everyone and their brother has a soundcloud or a demo or a mixtape or something, and you can stream a song from your pocket in a second's notice. There is almost an oversaturation of choices and options. If they were just now forming in present day (so, nobody knows the Queen of the 70s) I can see them being world famous just as easily as I can see them being lost in the shuffle and not amounting to anything. There are TONS of incredibly good, incredibly talented bands out there that nobody knows because they aren't on radio or dont' have the marketing.

Queen was huge in the 70s and 80s, right up to the moment Freddie died in '91. I don't think they could have gotten more popular.

Queen was huge back in the 70s as was Elton John. Everyone knew Elton John was gay. Most people assumed the members of Queen were all gay. But mostly we just liked the music and didn’t care much about the rest. Most people care more about the music than the artists personal life.

With the exception of Freddy being gay; the media would be all-Freddy all the time and very little about the music
