the solo on Aqualung has real context in the song and as it comes up my heart starts beating faster every time I hear it

Poles Apart - Pink Floyd doesn't get enough credit.

The entire Division Bell album is underrated. I feel the exact same way about Marooned. IMO it's one of the greatest pieces of guitar work of all time.

Agreed. Also, Frey fired Randy Meisner for not wanting to sing the high notes on "Take it to the Limit," saying that he would sing the song himself. Either way, they play it without the high notes now.

Agree also re: Felder

Meisner makes Take it to the Limit.

Lots of good suggestions here. Some other favorites of mine (although maybe not top 10 for most people):

Cowboy Song-Thin Lizzy
On the Turning Away-Pink Floyd
Stone Blue-Foghat (I am a sucker for Rod Price's solos)

This was Jeff Beck imitating Roy Buchanan. You could have listed just about any Roy Buchanan solo instead. Watch and listen to how Roy could get awesome sounds from his guitar without using effects pedals.

Mr. Clapton begs to differ, and I will leave it to his judgement.

Jimmy Page's solo on Stairway to Heaven is also pretty iconic.

Pretty iconic huh? That solo put the "i" in iconic as far as rock music goes.
