10,000 Days, for all it's criticism, contains Tool's most masterful song to date - Rosetta Stoned.
Any Tool fan who disagrees is either:
1) Unfamiliar with Rosetta Stoned
or...
2) Hopelessly lost in Tool's 1990s music catalogue unable to recognize masterful progression.
Honestly, I hope Rosetta Stoned is where Tool's "new sound" is heading on their upcoming album...whenever that will be released.
Any Tool fan who disagrees is either:
1) Unfamiliar with Rosetta Stoned
or...
2) Hopelessly lost in Tool's 1990s music catalogue unable to recognize masterful progression.

I take it back, there were 2 good songs on the album, which were drowned out by boring voyages through extreme pretentiousness.

Progression? 10K days was the first album by Tool to not progress at all. Their previous 3 LP's were all pretty distinct from the other. New ground was paved. 10K days didn't have that feeling at all and felt like it was a rehash of lateralus.

I've always had the same feeling for the album overall; however, there were still some great tracks on it. "10,000 Days" the song is incredible, and it was something wholly unique to their catalog. Rosetta Stoned overall was a decent track, but they rehashed a lot of riffs from previous works. It's definitely my least favorite of their albums (Aenima is king), but it is still good overall. I agree though, it was somewhat unoriginal by their standards.

It's amazing that your love for tool has blinded you to not be able to see the lack of progression.
I listened to the hell out of 10K days when it came out, for close to a year probably. I liked it a lot, but something happened and it just didn't age well. I guess I realized that what drew me in initially was all the signature Tool sounds and not the substance of the music, or something like that. I missed the Tool sound so much that they could have released anything and I would have listened to the hell of it. That feeling eventually wore off.
ETA: I'm just busting your balls. Everyone has their own views on music and you know what you like.
