Todd Snider Is Getting A Street Named After Him For His 60th Birthday
The Nashville alt-folk cult icon died suddenly of pneumonia last November at age 59. East Nashville will recognize its late, unofficial mascot Todd Snider by naming a street after him. The stretch of 11th Street outside Snider’s Purple Building studio will become Todd Snider Way on October 11th, which would have been his 60th birthday. That same weekend, Aimless Inc. will release the first posthumous Todd Snider album, My Second Rodeo.
To celebrate the naming of Todd Snider Way, Aimless will also host a free block party on the street outside the Purple Building. The event will feature performances from Chicago Farmer, Otis Gibbs, Hayes Carll, Allen Thompson, and more, plus Snider’s garage rock band The Eastside Bulldogs, anchored by Elizabeth Cook and a rotating cast of Nashville musicians. Invitations for the Todd Snider Way Block Party promise chicks, cars, and partying hard.
Along with the block party announcement, Aimless Inc. shared the second single from My Second Rodeo, “Freewheelin’ (Every Day at a Time).” The tune opens with the similar slow drawl from the final album Snider released in his lifetime, HIGH, LONESOME AND THEN SOME, as Todd says he “Fought my way from another likely story / To another cautionary tale.” Where HIGH, LONESOME was sparse and solitary, “Freewheelin'” is raised up by a horn section and chorus of backing vocalists. By the end, the song becomes a bittersweet alt-country spiritual, with album producer and Snider’s longtime friend Joe Bisirri observing, “If Todd had a way to write a farewell note to the people who loved him, I think ‘Freewheelin’’ would be it.”
“Freewheelin'” opens My Second Rodeo, featuring ten songs Snider wrote last fall in the months leading up to his sudden death in November 2025 at age 59. Rather than a posthumous hodgepodge of rough outtakes, My Second Rodeo is a fully-formed concept that Snider steadfastly developed in the final months of his life, with Todd calling it the “sound of country music 10 years from now.”
Snider recorded My Second Rodeo at the Purple Building with a house band of Bisirri, Aaron Lee Tasjan, Sturgill Simpson/Johnny Blue Skies multi-instrumentalist Robbie Crowell, backing vocalists Brooke Gronemeyer, Nikki Barber, and Alicia Gail, and horn players Emmanuel Echem (Tedeschi Trucks Band) and Roy Agee. For this record, Snider insisted on recording his guitar and vocals first, with no accompaniment or click track, making the band record after him “so they would HAVE to follow his lead wherever it went,” according to Bisirri.
“He heard this album get to the 70 percent mark,” Bisirri continued. “The last 30 percent took so much longer, because we were trying to follow his road map of voice memos and emails as close as we could, all the while questioning and re-questioning. Ultimately, Todd showed us where to go.”

Really, kind of a drugged out loser. The street should be named Skid Row.
