IMHO these threads lately are a prime example of how pedantic and embarrassing music enthusiasts can be at times

I , like many consider my taste in music to be pretty evolved and select. Yet I'm still mature enough to recognize when a venue has exceeded its perceived cache and booked an act previously thought to be beyond its reach

It would do well for a handful of posters to concede that arguing for booking a bunch of quirky artists they think they heard first makes them look like unaware 10th grade d bags

One of my Top 3 favorite bands ever, but they barely fill Chelsea's/spanish moon down here.
Their guarantee last time I checked was $3500. I'm sure it's gone up since the tour bus addition years ago

Would KMFDM work?

I was mainly joking around about Slayer...although a decade ago I wouldn't have been.

KMFDM puts on a good show though.

Bowen didn't get in there to reinvent the music scene in tigerland. He got in there to make money, and he did very well for himself. I'm a good friend of his and was involved in that deal peripherally. He had to trumpet the new music venue stuff to get kids in (and they did bring in unique acts there), but don't miss the forest for the trees that he did exceptionally well in that deal regardless of whether or not he reinvented the music scene in tigerland

that place was making money when he was there? I went in once and it was nothing but kids listening to some shitty dubstep music. I'd say most weren't even drinking. I liked the guy from the few times I met him but I figured there was a reason he sold to Sheely so quickly.

Yeah, I'm not going to betray him and put numbers and stuff on the board, but he got out with a nice little profit.

that's good. I heard Sheely paid a nice price for the place. I quit really knowing what was going on around there once Van got out.

I didn't know Bowen was still in at the very end of whatever it was called at the time... (was it still the box or the house?) I know the place went from Todd to Todd and Van to Van and some other dudes then Van was out but some of the others were there and then it all got confusing. Place was a shite show from about 2009 on in terms of management

oh really? I didn't realize that. Van must have been pulling double duty between there and the office. I can't believe I have no clue who you are if you worked there when Todd still owned it. Used to be in there all the time. Haven't heard from the guy in probably 2-3 years

I know they've played before, I'm just saying to get them in rotation...The Varsity should be a must play on some of their schedules.

I know everyone has their own taste in music, but I just listened to the Deftones for the first time and they sound really emo/depressing to me. Are all their songs like that?

No. It depends what you listened to.

Check out:

Tempest
Digital Bath
Diamond Eyes
Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away)
Sextape
Rosemary
Beauty School
Passenger (features Maynard from Tool)

I just listened and I think they are pretty terrible sounding. But I respect those who are into this type of music.
