Just couldn't get into The Monitor. Too long for my tastes. How does the new one compare on that note?

It is definitely shorter (65 vs. 50 minutes) and not as epic in scope.

I only had time to make it through 4 tracks, but I came back here to post that the sound of Local Business has some pretty clear Clash influence IMHO.
Which is of course, a positive.
To those commenting on The Monitor, Richard II and The Theme From Cheers are the stand alone jams that I listen to when not listening to the album.

Pretty much all the tracks work as stand-alones for me actually, it's just nothing beats them in the context of the album.

Come on. Seriously? Not to discredit The Monitor. It is a fantastic album but:
Try almost every Pink Floyd album.
The Mars Volta's first two albums.
The Decemberists - The Hazards of Love.
The Arcade Fire - The Suburbs
Animal Collective - Centipede Hz
Eels - Electro Shock Blues
Just to name a few...

Well I mean there are a ton of albums like that, but yeah I think The Monitor fits right in there with any of them.

Really enjoying the album.
Now, it isn’t The Monitor, but I didn’t really expect it to be. That would have been unrealistic. Not as epic and ambitious, and I don’t see this one being one of my all-time favorites like The Monitor. But it is still a really fun, catchy, straight-up rock and roll album. AND THAT’S OKAY!

Best rock band in the world right now? This was just a classic "rock your socks off" album after the ambitious The Monitor. Love this album so far.

IMO, yes. The Airing of Grievances, The Monitor, and Local Business is pretty much all I have been listening to this past week.
Local Business will definitely be in my year-end top 10.

Anybody have a favorite track yet? It is still early and there are a bunch of songs that are close, but I may have to go with My Eating Disorder.
