I'm a little irritated because on Twitter, Hyden was talking about the new TA record, calling it not their best, but their most accessible. So people were tweeting the most accessible but not the best album by several indie acts and I tweeted Boys and Girls in America to him.
So he uses my example of the Hold Steady, but changes it to Stay Positive. Not cool, Hyden. Not cool.

You're still double posting, but I'd rank B&GiA behind Separation Sunday and about even with Almost Killed Me. I prefer Almost Killed Me, as I like rougher albums, but I won't argue with Boy and Girls partisans on that count.
But Separation Sunday is the perfect Hold Steady record. Just like The Monitor will never be topped by Titus Andronicus.

jealous. i am seeing japandroids in new orleans the sunday after thanksgiving, but i would love to see titus.
guess i will have to live with this for now.

Rakim is playing, but at the same time as Titus so that's no decision at all for me. Anyone in our group who even marginally likes hip hop will probably ditch me during this period. Then we'll meet up for ...And You Shall Know Us By the Trail of the Dead.

I don't know if there is any band I would choose to see over Titus at the moment. Maybe Modest Mouse and The National. That is the only two that would be a close call.

How was Titus at FFF? I would have liked to see them but I didn't go.
On a side note, I've been listening to Local Business non-stop. This album is a grower and it is solid. IMO it is just as good as The Monitor.

fricking amazing.
Only played a 45 minute set, which is the nature of festival shows, but they played in a tent, not a major stage, which made it feel like a club date. Not only did Patrick Stickles stage dive and sing half of a song from the middle of a mosh pit, the BASSIST stagedove and continued to play while crowdsurfing, being carried on his back across the front rows.
Played stuff from all three albums, but the biggest reaction was for No Future: Part Three. the whole crowd sang the first verse and then just exploded into chaos when the screaming kicked in. The "You'll Always be a Loser!" chant went nuts. The new stuff got a big reaction as well, but they closed with a ten minute version of More Perfect Union/Titus Andronicus Forever! and then a little bit of the Battle of Hampton Roads. they cut off the band's mics because the song went to long and the crowd sang the last verse a cappella with the band. No amps, no mics, no guitars, just the crowd singing.
It was only 45 minutes, but it was one of the best live shows I have ever seen.

I'm old. I have a bad back. I've had multiple knee surgeries. I stood three-quarters of the way back and somehow managed to not be in moshpit. Plan ahead, people. And while I'm against moshing to everything, TA is a punk band. And it wasn't a nonstop pit. It was a crowd that knew when to singalong, when to shout to the heavens, and when to go insane.
There was a lot beer spraying, which amazed me given that beers were six bucks a pop.
