Me too, no question. She really is a very talented songwriter. And has a very interesting and unique voice. Doesn't get the credit she deserves as an artist, I don't think, because of all the loonie-tunes act and 80s costumes she constantly flaunted. And "Girls Just Wannna Have Fun" unfairly labeled her as some sort of silly 80s pop cartoon that she couldn't shake to be taken seriously--much to her own doing, granted--and robbed us of a unique voice and artist in a time of cookie-cutter horse shite. Oh well, I guess.

By the way, this thread was inspired by the Iron and Wine version of Time After Time that is running on some commercial now. I caught it last night.

I've heard this tune performed by multiple artists, in different tempos/keys, with either a male or female vocalist and it holds up. Great song.

True Colors, less of a hit, less prom-fodder, she pours her soul into that song and gives me chills every time(which is rare) it's ever played on the radio.

I like the version on that commercial too. Maybe that influenced my answer. True Colors is a great song too. And you're right. Cyndi Lauper is way underrated. I confess I didn't take her seriously back in the day. But she's legit and still making good music. She's a pretty good actress too.

She's So Unusual is a really great pop record.. it may suffer from a bit of 80s production, but the songs hold up..

Rob Hyman (of The Hooters) cowrote the song with Lauper. His bandmate, Eric Bazilian wrote, (What if God was) One of Us - they perform the songs as a set in some of their live shows - it's about my favorite version (in their version of One of Us, at German shows, Bazilian sings some of the verses and choruses in German):

Her cover of The Brains' Money Changes Everything is one of the best pop songs of all time, period.
