Slayer
Metallica
Megadeth
Anthrax
Of course Metallica was the most popular but some consider Slayer the better of the 4. Megadeth was good but always felt to me as not on the same level as the others. Maybe it was Mustaine singing, IDK. I am not as familiar with Anthrax as the other 3.

Metallica - best metal band of all time, especially their 80s music. Even Load has grown on me.
Megadeth - very good but a step below Metallica.
Slayer - musically great but too far on the evil side lyrically
Anthrax - just never cared for their music

Order of personal preference.
Got into Metallica the earliest. Other than St. Anger I like everything. Megadeth has the most technical playing. Always loved their riffs and playing. Anthrax has the best vocalist by far of the four, but neck and neck with Megadeth. Only in the past several years have I started listening to Slayer.

Metallica - undisputed kings
Megadeth - light years better than Slayer or Anthrax. Truly impressive that someone would be kicked out of Metallica and then go on to form a massively successful band that was very different.
Slayer - lots of good stuff, but lots of meh too.
Anthrax - super fun with some really high points, but overall catalogue not as strong.
