Thoughts on Meriwether?

Haven't listened to these guys much recently but I've always thought they were a solid local rock band. Any fans?

Their best album I thought was sons of our fathers, but It was shelved by suretone records.

They could have been so much better than they were, but Drew was chasing a record deal and seemed to take a couple of shortcuts.

They were the shite back in high school. I used to rock out to some "Tonic ER" and "Be Quiet".

Good friends with Drew, I was in Anomaly and we played together all the time. The Suretone thing sucked for them but Drew still doesn't give up on his passion, and is a very gifted songwriter. He always had the girls singing along and I always imagined them being another Fallout Boy

What shortcuts are you talking about?
They took a 5 record deal from suretone, and suretone shelved the sons of our fathers record so competition labels couldn't sign them..

I'm not going to bash the guy, but he went from writing good, fun songs to the generic "next fallout boy" stuff that got them signed.

I agree his songwriting hasn't changed and he wasn't doing anything different to "get big"

I'll leave it at that. I'm really not trying to bash, I just found Meriwether very predictable and formulaic.

I know the record label screwed them, but what exactly was the reasoning? Why do that?
I've hung out with a few of them multiple times, really cool guys. I always thought they'd be really big. Still wish they'd blow up.

Didn't want to put any money into promotion or distribution or let a competing label sign them. So they shelve the record, thus ending most bands careers when they do that.

Just got to be smart. 5 record deals should be avoided at all costs.
