I've listened to many Elton John songs, and owned several of his greatest hits albums, but I never listened to any of his studio albums until I downloaded this one recently.

Man, there's a lot of good songs on there. There's several big hits (Bennie And The Jets, Candle In The Wind, title song), there's some other songs that are played on classic rock stations (Funeral For A Friend / Love Lies Bleeding, Harmony, Gray Seal) and then there's some other hidden gems (Sweet Eyed Lady, I've Seen That Movie Too, All The Young Girls Love Alice, etc.)

Overall, a great pop/rock album and highly recommended.

Tumbleweed Connection is his GOAT.

His 11-17-70 live album is raw but a great early representation of his live performances.

Not to hijack the thread, but I don't feel like the song Gray Seal gets enough play. It's one of my favorite Elton songs. I know he plays it at virtually every concert but I don't like that sped up version.

Short EJ discussion

Digging into his albums is very worthwhile.

I feel like "Dirty Girl" is a pretty underrated track

"Grey Seal" would have been a radio hit if it had been released as a single.

"Jamaica Jerk Off" I can do without. Otherwise, I agree fully.

I would put Elton John's catalog of music from his first album up through the "To Be Continued..." box set put out in 1990 up against the catalog of any other artist in the history of Rock and Pop.

I've always liked EJ, but never listened to any of his albums, just songs and hits collections.

Goodbye Yellow Brick Road and Madman would be the two y'all recommend if trying a couple albums?

I've been going through my dad's CD's. All of Elton John's early albums are really good.

I like Honky Chateau the best. On Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, I like I've Seen That Movie Too and All The Young Girls Love Alice.

Those would be good places to start but any of his 1st 5-6 albums would work.

Elton was pretty much unstoppable from 1970-1976. I think it was Townshend who said he could "shite bricks and have a gold record." And he was right.
