The only fact is closed minded people shouldn't post in a new music thread. We are probably a similar age and I love the old stuff. But there is plenty of good new stuff out there if you make an effort.

I think when most people say music today or of any era sucks for that matter they mean the "popular" or "mainstream" music, i'm not sure if a term like top 40 applies any more but generally the stuff they hear. Even then its not like they are literally saying there are zero good songs in the last 10 years. Even the most "close minded" have probably heard a few songs they like, even if they don't really realize it.

There have always been obscure bands, ones the never had major deals or got air play. In the past you'd have really hunt for some stuff or see the bands live or hell live in the same town. Now thanks to streaming, you can find just about anything, so for real music snobs err aficionados its great, maybe the best ever. But lost is the shared culture. So if i say musics now sucks, that's what i mean even though, yes I've heard some new bands/artists that i think are really good, this decade.

the ability to hear new good music from all of the WORLD in a matter of taps on ones phone in itself is amazing. every obscure band from around the globe is streaming. there's so much great music being released and in the last few years the accessibility of it has increased 100 fold

I'm 64 and there has never been era in my life that I couldn't find great new music. But it does take effort. It is however easier in today's world of connectivity, but you still have look for it. Heck I'm still discovering or rediscovering older music too. My favorite artists are always changing

I like this one a lot more than the first single. Their last album was disappointing. Hope this one is better.
