I only use spotify when I'm in my car or sometimes in my bed. If I'm in my living room then I have all my music on my pc or I'll listen to new music on youtube.

But I like spotify, free version of course. I don't listen to the stations I select my library and select songs play random shuffle. Whenever I hear a new song I like on youtube I'll add it to the spotify random shuffle.

premium streaming is great

For 10-12 dollars a month (I switch services regularly depending on promotions and trying out new shite) I get to listen to whatever I want. I listen to music probably 25-40 hours a week. It's a no brainer. One of the most used things I purchase.

If you want CDs or FLAC or vinyl, I get it. But I don't care about that for the most part.

I love Spotify but they just screw over artists and have gotten worse about it in recent years. The discover feature is great. But obviously my shite is not on the discover feature of Spotify.

by 'thumbs up and downing' you're actually doing the opposite..further limiting what you hear so i don't get this. sure i

How do you know this? You act like you know their algorithm. If you thumbs up something I would say it's more likely you get exposed to more.

where are the services catering to fans of non-mainstream music? can you list the sites?

You seem to understand how streaming services profit so I don't have understand your question. It wouldn't work. You have to "go get them" aka download them or buy them from somewhere if you want something rare.

would LOVE you to prove me wrong on this. link?

You aren't using Pandora to its fullest extent if you just thumbs up and thumbs down. Add more rare artists you like to the same station.

its dumb to make a distinction between access to an album via streaming and 'streaming radio'. they're one in the same.

Maybe to you. They are completely different to me and most of your complaints are based on streaming radios algorithms.

I have none of these issues with Apple Music which I haven't seen discussed here.

I have some really eccentric tastes myself and it's really hard to try to find something that isn't available on Apple Music. It's streaming access to all of iTunes.

It's honestly the best thing I pay for.

I love my Spotify. I pay for the premium. Got about 3800 songs in 21 genres so far. Don't stream. Just keep adding to my own playlists. Got 345 songs on my 80's playlist for example.

TIDAL may be your solution...although you will have to pony up another $10 a month above the Pandoras of the world.

It also streams in 16 bit/44.1k resolution (same as a CD) and will now stream in MQA extreme hi-rez for those with a capable MQA DAC.

So there's that.

One of the more popular songs of the late 80s in nightclubs - poesie noire - pity for the self. Is that one on Apple music?

Serious question. That's one of the first tracks I look for. It's on YouTube 30 different times but nada on the music services I've looked at.

Eta and that shitty instrumental version on Spotify is not the song.

No, he wants an app that will cater to less than .0001% of people that use music apps. Which does not seem possible. Hell, this may be some big business opportunity and he should develop the app himself.

CAD should Corner the market and create a music app just for rare stuff. But don't forget to include those expensive licenses for the more popular stuff.

There exist record labels and artists that choose not to put their music on streaming services.

Spotify has nothing from Plan-It-X records, so I can't get any Rosa, No Reason, or old Ghost Mice. This is not Spotify's fault, it's the record label's.

Or to give you an example of an artist no one really knows: there's this obscure artist Garth Brooks who has chosen to keep all his music off digital streaming services. Again, not Spotify's fault.

About what exactly?

While some of what you say is true (too expensive to find and put rare music on streaming services), no sensible person expects to get a huge library of exotic and rare music from a music streaming service that costs $10 / month. You see it as a "problem". It's a personal problem for you, not a problem with the streaming service.

And just because you don't understand how to use streaming radio to get the most out of it (you aren't even aware of some of Pandora's features), and haven't also tried one of the more highly regarded apps, iheartradio, doesn't make all streaming radio bad. It also certainly doesn't make all streaming music services bad.

Actually, I guess my numbers were wrong. According to this article stats and shite, spotify pays out $.00437 per stream. So I guess things are looking up. Unless you see that that is down from 2015.
