They were fighting so much by the time they recorded Synchronicity that they would show up to the studio and different times to record their parts. This documentary says that the first thing Sting would do when he showed up was to erase what Stewart had added the previous day. Sting wanted a simple drum beat and to use a drum machine on Every Breath You Take. As a contractional compromise, Stewart was allowed to add a high hat beat.

The first band I really “got into” and have never tired of them.
B side of Ghost in the Machine is a personal favorite and so much of that album resonates today… they had so much awesome stuff outside of the big hits.
