I would say "The Kids are Alright" fits in the power pop vein
For sure, which is why I posted it.
It's not what classic power pop ultimately became defined by, but it laid the groundwork.
The Beatles and Who are who the power poppers cut their teeth on.
IMO Power Pop was their filtering of the Beatlemania strain of The British Invasion with jangly guitars added to the harmonies.

and this is as good excuse as any to play the sundays

Children of Nuggets: Original Artyfacts from the Second Psychedelic Era, 1976–1996 is a box set compilation album of alternative pop music, released in 2005 by Rhino Records. The set consists of four compact discs of songs recorded between 1976 and 1996, with most of the recordings stemming from the 1980s. The title refers to the original Nuggets LP, which was first issued in 1972 and whose music influenced the bands featured on Children of Nuggets

Didn't scroll through the thread to see if this one was already posted. Still good enough for a repeat if so.

"Hanging On The Telephone" by The Nerves, famously covered by Blondie.

My favorite Blondie song by far.
