The sample of X Factor on Drake’s new song got me back to thinking about that album and as a middle aged white dude I think that might be my 2nd favorite album of all time.

Anyone else hold it in that high of esteem?

Not about that album but here's a related Fugees/Lauryn Hill story:

I always thought the verse lyrics for Killing Me Softly by Roberta Flack was "Strumming my fate with his fingers..."

I thought it was so poetic as an alliterative metaphor with fate/fingers.

So for years, I deeply resented Lauryn's dumbed-down cover that emphasized "strumming my PAIN with his fingers..."

Until one day I looked up Flack's original lyrics...and it was always written as "pain", Roberta just couldn't enunciate.

Love that album. Great cover of “Can’t take my eyes off you.”

Great album. Easily in my top 25. The skits are kind of annoying though. Also, it makes me feel very old that the album is 20 years old.

That and Wyclef's Carnival were both yuge album's in my early relationship with my wife.

But damn... that period of rap's infatuation with skits was REALLY annoying in retrospect.

Yeah, I feel this way about Snoop Dogg's Doggystyle, The Chronic and Outkast's early albums.

The skits never add anything and the music is more than strong enough to hold your attention if you just let it play.

The whole Fugees crew started off so strong but all fell off a cliff right around the same time

That album is great. It is definitely one of my favorite albums. It really sucks that she just fell off so quick tho.

Gah, that was my jam back in the day. It makes me so sad every time i hear that she shows up late to festivals and concerts. She had/has a huge fan base and she shits on us at every chance she gets.

Don't she have some mental issues?

She's a nut job.

And that album is overrated imo.

It is top 5 all time for me, and I am a 35 year old white dude. Still sounds great to this day. I heard she is going on tour and performing the album. I am tempted to go see her but she is notorious for being hours late to her own concerts.

My wife saw her in St. Louis as part of a festival a couple of years ago. She said it was shite, and my wife was a huge fan.
