The importance of Marty Schwartz and JustinGuitar

About 20 years from now, how iconic will these guys be in the guitar world? They’re basically teaching an entire generation how to play the guitar (myself included). Caught myself earlier marveling at how I and millions of others are basically learning guitar from the same people.
ETA: Not saying these guys are “greats” or anything. Just crazy the amount of middleman influence they have in people’s guitar pursuits.

Marty comes off as a douche with his “hey guys what’s up?!” at the beginning of each video. It’s cringy.
Justin Guitar is the better of these two for sure.
Your Guitar Sage is better than both though imo.

Yep, just like Mel Bay.
Not to hate or cast much shade But there'll come a time when you need more than play this (or that) and you'll find someone better at that type instruction.

Are you Marty's Mom, or Justin's?

I don’t even consider Marty a teacher anymore. Maybe at one time he was. But there’s no theory. Now every video is “how to play (insert popular pop/rock song).
While also doing some kind of shameless plug.

That’s why I’ve moved on to GuitarTricks for their blues and rock courses. I’m still not quite up to snuff to just repeat a song perfectly I see on YouTube because some of the teachers leave big holes in their lessons or assume you know certain techniques.

I get using songs as a teaching tool but Marty doesn’t explain anything about the songs. It’s just “1st finger 2nd fret, 3rd finger 4th fret. G to a C to a D etc”. He doesn’t explain WHY these notes work or anything. He’s basically just a video version of ultimate guitar tabs. That’s why I love ActiveMelody. He writes his own compositions and spends the whole video going over the reason for those notes, scales, etc.

Somebody put up an active melody link the other day. I’ve been hooked on that guy.

Justin got me started in a big way. I think they key to his success is that he knows how to talk to beginners. He is extremely reassuring, knows what people will struggle with, and takes the time to explain you aren't an idiot, just new to it. He is a good dude.
Marty annoys me.
As far as straight lessons with no theory in the vain of marty, yall check out guitarZerotoHero. Similar to martys lessons but its is by far the best format and visual layout I have found on youtube.

No love for Mike Gross? I think I use him more than Schwartz (though he’s every bit as annoying).
My favorite was ObeyYourMattster (Matt Marroquin) - guy had a whole bunch of lessons on his site that catered to the heavy metal crowd - Metallica, Pantera, Slayer, etc. He accepted paypal donations but had his stuff available for free. A while back he passed away at a pretty young age - I think it was complications from diabetes. His site rocked.
ETA: Just checked and his youtube channel is still up under username m169marroquin

I learn different things from different people but I find it funny people shite on Marty. When people get popular it isn’t cool to like them. I haven’t learned really anything from him but just found this thread funny.

I wouldn’t shite on Marty. I just agree that his lessons leave a lot to be desired. But I think he makes most of his money on his paid lessons and he doesn’t push them relentlessly like others, so I’ll give him that.
If I want to learn a song I generally watch lessons from several guys and pick up things from all of them.
Justin should have a statue built in his honor. His course is really good. And it’s completely free. That’s insane. Whatever it’s short comings are, it’ll get you to being an intermediate player with absolutely no money spent for lessons.
If anybody likes blues I like griff hamlins blues course.
And if you’re an intermediate player check out Jamie Harrison for some cool song lessons.
