Recorded in 1992ish and released in 94. Every song on this album is amazing.

Fun fact, NY State of mind was done after the first take. The intro is all just him talking. "Straight out the fricking dungeons of rap, where fake ****s don't make it back"

I miss good rap

quote:

woke up early on my born day, I'm twenty, it's a blessing
The essence of adolescence leaves my body, now I'm fresh and My physical frame is celebrated cause I made it One quarter through life some Godly-like thing created Got rhymes three hundred sixty five days annual plus some Load up the mic and bust one, cuss while I puffs from My skull cause it's pain in my brain, vein, money maintain Don't go against the grain, simple and plain When I was young, at this I used to do my thing hard Robbing foreigners, take their wallets, their jewels And rip their green cards Dipped to the projects flashing my quick cash and Got my first piece of arse smoking blunts with hash
Now it's all about cash in abundance ****s I used to run with is rich or doing years in the hundreds I switched my motto; instead of saying "frick tomorrow" That buck that bought a bottle could've struck the lotto Once I stood on the block, loose cracks produce stacks I cooked up and cut small pieces to get my loot back Time is Illmatic, keep static like wool fabric

It is perfection. Y'all should check out the performance Nas did of Illmatic with the National Symphony Orchestra. There's video and audio versions of it. It's a really cool documentary/concert.

Curious to hear his new album with Kanye producing that will be released this year.

And I don’t know if Illmatic is the greatest, but it’s prettu damned great.

I don't necessarily agree, but I can't argue it either.

10/10 rap album.

I'm still somewhat pissed he didn't do an entire album with DJ Premier.

Nas has been my favorite Mc for a while.

Nas had a line on one of his later tracks, “Your best success is my worst blunder.”

I feel like the best all these shitty “rappers” with “Lil” in front of their name could come up with, would be something Nas could put together in his sleep.

I know I'm in the minority but I prefer both "The Chronic" and "36 Chambers" to Nas. I put a lot of stock into the quality of the beats/music and I just find "Illmatic" behind Dre and RZA' respective masterpieces in that regard.

It’s hard to argue Illmatic not being tGOAT, however, if I had to choose Illmatic or 36 Chambers, I’d roll with 36 Chambers.
