The History of the Eagles

I finally got to finish watching this last night. It's a 3 hour 15 minute documentary chronicling the rise, fall and reunion of a great band.
It's a "must watch" for music fans.
But, don't watch it with kids around. Quite a few F bombs and some nudity.
It's been playing on Showtime lately but, I'm sure it's available online.

I've got to check it out. I love the Eagles. But prepare for some hate, the MB thinks The Eagles are the most overrated band ever.

My opinion from a prior thread:
Prior thread.

I bought the documentary off Amazon and just plowed through the first two discs (the third one is a concert). Absolutely epic.
I had some cursory knowledge of this stuff, but the crossover with Bob Seger, Linda Rondstadt, and Jackson Browne was fascinating. JD Souther whining about how Jackson Browne wouldn't stop f-ing playing Doctor My Eyes and the Pretender was hysterical.
One of the more interesting aspects for me was the lesser known guys. I always knew a little about JD Souther, Randy Meisner, and Don Felder. I didn't even remember Bernie Leadon. I kind of feel bad for Felder. He is a jealous idiot that can't help himself and appreciate what he has, and it cost him his spot in the band. It has to hurt that he is not listed as an Eagle on the documentary labeling.
The inner workings with the producers were cool. The feud between the band and David Geffen is the best part of this whole documentary.
Don Henley is a Grade A egomaniac and I love the guy.
Prior thread.

yeah, i did a search for eagles and didn't see it.. I would have just bumped that thread.
I agree with everything in your post.
I thought it was cool how something Walsh used as an exercise turned into Life in the Fast Lane. How talented do you have to be to have something you use as a warm up turn into a hit song?
This documentary cleared up a few things that i had heard a long time ago.
Like the eagles were a backup band for Linda Ronstadt. That's not really true. It was just Frey and Henley playing with her band.
ETA: LOL at the nude scenes. women had no idea what razors were back then.

#3 son started the project as an intern editor, finished as an associate editor. He's in the credits waaaay near the bottom.
His job was to sift through the original footage, catalogue it, and make recommendations of what clips to use.

I've always liked the eagles
That movie made it cool to hate the eagles. Which is retarded.

May be in pop culture, but Eagles hate has kind of always been around for fans of cowpunk/alt-country, etc. of the 80s and 90s. They were seen as kind of a mainstream bastardization of the Gram Parsons/Flying Burrito Bros./Byrds sound...
All that said, while I don't like all their songs, they don't bother me at all and I don't necessarily mind a song or three when it comes on the radio...

It did to The Eagles what 40 year old virgin did to Coldplay.

Was Coldplay not considered gay before 40 Year Old Virgin came out?

True enough, I suppose. I liked them in the very beginning, but eventually thought they were just a little to "slick".
Of course, Don Henley once said, "If the charge is playing in tune and in time, I plead guilty."
