I think it was from the Showtime documentary, I felt bad for Meisner as he just seemed like a weird guy who couldn't handle the spotlight.
The Felder tension is the juiciest stuff. Ace Midnight on here covers that well.

IMO, Felder tends to be overlooked. In addition to writing the music to Hotel California, the guy is a tremendously gifted guitarist.
Sadly, I believe the Eagles had run their course with the Hotel California album.

Yeah, no. Although I do love that album.

Frey told Meisner that if he couldn't hit the high notes on Take It To The Limit anymore then he could leave the band and Frey would sing it himself. So he sang it himself, without the high notes.

I love a lot of the Meisner songs:
Too Many Hands (with the excellent Felder/Leadon dueling lead guitars in stereo), Tryin', and Try And Love Again

I don't think this is entirely correct......if memory serves me correctly he brought the basic melody and guitar hook but him, Frey & Henley finished it including all lyrics. He DID bring the basic concept of the song which is big.

Probably not anymore unpopular than my view that the Eagles two best albums were On the Border and Desperado.

This take is mostly wrong (and pushed by Henley and the late Glenn Frey for their own purposes).
Henley and Frey wrote all the lyrics (as they wrote or cowrote virtually all the Eagles lyrics, save an odd lyrical contribution by Meisner or Walsh, here or there, and their usual collaborators like JD Souther) for the song Hotel California. Don Felder wrote 100% of the music for that song. Henley and Frey changed the key and did most of the arranging, of course, along with Szymczyk and Norman, but the song was 100% complete as a demo when Felder brought it to the band.
Henley didn't know what to do with it at first, so he called it "Mexican Reggae". And we know that Felder wrote it because they (Henley and Frey) made him call his house and have his housekeeper play the demo (which he still has) over the phone so they could record it exactly as it was on the demo, originally, save the key change.
