The album marked a deliberate stylistic change in the band's sound from gothic rock to more traditional hard rock.
Rick Rubin, the producer on Electric, had been specifically hired to remake the band's sound in an effort to capitalize on the popularity of hard rock, glam metaland heavy metal in the 1980s.

The Cult always seemed like a band born of the wrong time for some reason. Simultaenously too early and too late on the scene.

Duffy and Astbury are still making music with malicious intent.
Duffy's guitar is criminally underrated

If you can make it through that album without playing “air” drums or guitar, even for a second, I don’t think we can/should have a beer together.

I was at the Tate Meusem in London a few years ago and when I walked around a corner I saw this....
I could't get this verse out of my head.
Sittin' on a mountain, we're looking at the sun
Plastic fantastic lobster telephone.
Great Album.
