It really all started right here.

Buckingham/Nicks being absorbed by the old Fleetwood Mac is the best money decision in the history of rock and roll.

Was awesome but without Gilmour Im not sure Floyd (that most of us know) would have ever happened.

Not only that, but what if Syd had not gone crazy? Would Gilmore still have been in a position somewhere to be famous?

Moneywise Guns N Roses would probably disagree

That is a good question and one that have been talked about a lot.

I will give you my personal opinion for what its worth. I am older than most and have been through all phases of Floyd. I personally do not believe that Pink Floyd with a healthy Sid would have ever been as successful as they are since David joined. I know he was responsible for the name and for starting things but soon after he left, the psychodelic 60's were ending and music was changing. Im not sure Sid wanted or would agree to change the sound of the band. I also do not believe he had the personality to thrive like Roger and David

The sound of Pink Floyd "adjusted" throughout the many years they were around. Plus, David Gilmour is probably one of the best rhythm guitarist of all time. I am not sure Sid could have pulled off some of the things David did.

I'm not sure any personnel changes from the classic lineup were "money" decisions. If anything, losing Izzy probably shortened what could have been an ever greater GnR impact, rather than Axl's meandering (but occasionally brilliant) output after that.

Unfortunately they did not last long enough to really get a long term ROI

Picking up Ronnie Wood worked out pretty well for the Stones.

Yes, but probably didn't make a big difference in the popularity/sales/longevity of the Stones as a band.
