I do not hate them because it's trendy to hate them.
I hate them because I hate the current style of rock music, and they seem to be the flagship of that sound.

Nickelback is not as bad as people make them out to be. The reason people hate them is because it's the popular thing to do. They have a few good songs and are better then a lot of people say

I think most people just think its generic "dude rock". If it's on monday night raw, most people are going to instantly write it off. nickel back is the "affliction" of pop rock.

They're worse than that.

The reason hating them is popular is because they are just that bad.

The average person would probably agree with you. But the average person is also $9000 in credit card debt and believes the Olive Garden serves a delicious meal.

Precisely

I'm neither trendy enough, nor cool enough to have a convo with that hipster.

Bottom line is that Nickelback is really good at what they do. . .

While I am not a big fan of their music, I don't hate it.

I respect them for being excellent musicians who share their artistic vision with the world.

Every decade, there is a new band that is cool to hate. . .but later years can alter perception.

I remember when it was cool to hate:

Creed
Limp Bizkit
Nirvana
Metallica
Pearl Jam
Bon Jovi
80's Glam Rock Bands
REO Speedwagon
The Eagles
Air Supply
BeeGees

As you mature, so do your tastes. You stop choosing your music as a medium to impress people with how cool you are. . .and start to truly appreciate it.

In your teens and twenties, music is a social tool. In your thirties on, it is an artform.

I can truly say that I appreciate all musicians and genres. I may not be a fan of everyone, but I respect them as artists exposing themselves and sharing their vision with millions of strangers.

That is a result of maturity.

That said, you can never expect a teen or twentysomething to be mature. Few are, and that is great when you find it. . .but you certainly can't expect it.

I would much rather listen to Creed, LB, or Nirvana than this band. The singer is awful and the lyrics are childish. I really dislike what this band has done to rock music.

I don't give a rats arse why other people hate or don't hate Nickelback or any other band. I have ears and can decide on my own what I like.
What part of I don't like that style of music that they play can't people understand. It's not just Nickelback. Most bands suck today. It's like they don't even try to write good melodical songs anymore. They just go for stupid catchy lyrics such as Rock Star, or Crazy Bitch, or Biggest Black Arse song or whatever.

Save Metallica and Pearl jam all the bands you listed are deserving of the hate. Limp Bizkit? Really?

Nickleback is awful. They are the KISS of their era. All image, no substance. It's music for 14 year old girls.

Apparently having good taste in the 21st century makes you a hipster.

THIS. Anyone is entitled to liking or respecting Nickelback however I wouldn't trust you with having any taste in music. They make the easiest simple formulaic radio rock you can imagine. All the "bashing" to me is coming from people who care about music as an art form.

Explain.

Their Vocalist is decent.

They're each talented at the musical instuments they play.

Their lyrical content is ok.

I'm not saying they are a great band, but where are they awful?

The other thing about the bands listed, is that their reputation improved as people matured. Noe were deserving of hate.

I used to be on that bandwagon, but find myself turning up my radio if I stumble upon Every Rose has it's Thorn. . .or Living on a Prayer.

That music hasn't changed. My tastes just matured.

You'll get there one day.

Nope.

Assuming your youthful conformist opinion is the metric by which everyone should default, makes you a hipster.

To answer the OP:

The more records you sell, the more popular it becomes to hate you. . . Exponentially increasing if you have the audacity to get radio rotation.

Radiohead and the Pixies too..

Wow, it's easy to do when you make stuff up. I still believe most people are just doing what they hate, the popular thing to do. The "Nicleback and Creed suck" hipster theem has become quite the fad.

Nickleback is sugary rock/pop and there are some worse, many better than them. It's just the fad to bash them these days.
