A favorite of mine from Jim Croce:
It's incredible to think all the Croce tunes we love were produced in the time frame of a year and a half. What a loss.

In the early 60s Jim Croce was at Villanova University and met Don McLean. McLean left VU and went to Iona College at night. McLean graduated from Iona in 1968. While I was in my senior year (1972-1973) at Iona "American Pie" came out.
McLean stayed friends with Croce. I was in my first year of law school when I heard Jim Croce's death announced in September of 1973. A true loss.

Great story!
I was in 8th grade getting ready for school when the news came over the radio. Jim was one of the few artists my father liked as much or more than I did, I'm sure because of the story songs.
Croce was one of a kind. His subject matter was the stuff of country music, but the instrumentation was anything but.
