Yeah that's where I went. There's nowhere to buy Isbell tickets. I'll just call them Monday morning

Pretty good show in Birmingham last night, even if the crowd kind of sucked. Seems most of them have only heard his new album. People sitting on their hands the first part of the show and only getting up and dancing when he played the new album.

His band is so damn good. Really like what they've added to some of his songs off the first 2 records.

I was surprised by that for the NOLA show. The song that received the most audience response was In Bloom. Like yea, good song, but that's not even in his top 10-15 songs. I danced and sang to everything the whole show. But people getting up 3-5 times for drinks, or talking a lot made me want to rage. Waited 2 years to see this guy and some people killed the vibe. He and his band were so, so good, too.

Some a-hole poser in a cowboy hat in front of me had never heard of the song I Never Go Around Mirrors. I wanted to slap the hat off his head.

my dad was near the soundboard and said it was the same thing. he said people constantly talking, not standing up. that's been my experience in more shows than not in NOLA, unfortunately. people going to be seen or just because their boy has an extra ticket. shut the frick up and listen to the show.

it was nothing like that in memphis. the crowd was bringing it. everyone was up for most of the set, outside of a few slower songs like promise and a couple covers. very little talking around me

I was about 18-20 rows back I believe. I'd say row 15 on up to the stage was hyped. But my area and back had a bunch of people I wanted to slap. I stood the whole time sang along to every song, the people right behind me would sit for a lot of songs...frick them. My girlfriend knew jack shite about Stu and she danced the whole time. I guess next time I need to make sure my seats are closer.

Quint Davis was there scouting them out so I wouldn't be surprised if they are one of the smaller headliners for Jazz Fest this year.

I might be wrong, but pretty certain I saw Sturgill at Jazz Fest 2015 as a headliner or second to last on Locals Thursday on Gentilly (samsung) stage.

But would be great for them to come back.

You are right (I was thinking he played earlier in the day).

Count me in among the "sound quality was arse" crew. I understood about a third of what he was singing for the songs I wasn't super familiar with. From context clues I got that he said that he was "sick as shite", but at first I thought he said he was "sick of this shite" and was waiting for him to go off on mainstream music.

Regardless, he put on a great show, especially for having the sickness. The horns did a great job and one of them killed it on "The Promise."

Next up, Mr. Isbell.
