Core was released in '92.
The DeLeo Brothers were some of the best songwriters of that time. They weren't riding anyone's coattails. Add in a great frontman in Weiland and it's comical to compare them to the other bands you listed.

They were from San Diego. They weren't a Seattle band but people still try to lump them in with them. They were the first popular band that tried to copy that sound, though.

Robert DeLeo is a very underrated bass player imo.
