Link me to when Bieber improvised live over various chord patterns and long sets of music and crossed genre boundaries. I'll wait.
I don't have one. I was mocking your opinion.

Miles Davis
Jazz music. His live music predates the genre fusion of modern music.. He had no boundaries; everything he played could fit under the label "jazz" (including bop & bebop). He wasn't blending jazz with music outside of jazz (say country, etc.) just because he was playing the various componenets of jazz.

ETA: What genre was Davis mixing with jazz? Maybe his music could be labeled as a jam band.

His early and mid 70's stuff had a lot of funk and blues elements in it

Miles could be considered jam. MMW only plays jazz, and they're considered jam.

Miles Davis - A Tribute to Jack Johnson
That album definitely has major influence on all jam bands.

Jazz band improvising live with elements of funk and blues, eh? Sounds like a killer jam band.

They also apperently consider Paul Simon a jam band.

Look, a band can "jam" and not be considered a "jam band". You have to "jam" to be a "jam band", but not all bands that "jam" are really "jam bands".

I think the idea of a "jam band" includes a lot of the cultural aspects of the people that go to the shows, lot scenes and all that stupid bullshite.

Yes, I guess technically all bands that improv for extended portions of their sets are jam bands, but not really.

20 years ago it did, now jam band festivals and shows include numerous genre-defying bands like mogwai, who tour with bands that are nothing like them in style, yet also happen to "jam". Jam bands are not all like Phish. Jam bands fuse various genres and improvise live.

What do you consider a "jam band festival"? The only real jam band festivals are shite like All Good and Wanee and horrible festivals like that. And those festivals have nothing but jam bands.

I wouldn't consider stuff like Bonnaroo or Wakarusa "jam band festivals".
