New Torche album is good. After the first few listens, I might like Restarter a little more though

I think Brosef might have said it before, but how that band is not bigger than they are, is pretty mind boggling

I'm pretty sure I brought Torche to this board's attention many years ago. I haven't heard this new album but wasn't a big fan of Restarter. Sounds like they're going in more of a synthwave direction than their old sludge-pop sound. I will check this new one out though.

I think this tour (despite not coming to LA) will help solidify them. At least put em in a category with Truckfighters and the like.

Get stoned. Listen to "Minions". Oh yeah.

Straight up sounds like Failure.

Not a criticism.

Nor should it ever be to mimic Failure. Greatest album of 1996? Big company.

I just want to give a huge fricking THANK YOU for the collective contributors to this bad arse thread!

My experience with stoner, sludge and doom is very limited but I've been recovering from a pretty nasty surgery the last 6 weeks and focused on exploring new music to distract myself. You guys fricking rock for keeping this going so long. I've built a playlist with almost every linked song in here and others from bands I'm loving. Its almost all new to me!

I'm a long time lover of Acid Bath, Crowbar and Eyehategod. I'm familiar with Sleep and Corrosion of Conformity. I enjoy Mastodon and Pallbearer but everything else posted here is new to me!

Where do you guys discover new music?

Spotify. I find an artist I like and then look at the related artists. Easy way to find good bands.

Apple music is free for 3 months.... picked it up just yesterday to try. Works like Spotify just not sure how much content it has in ratio to Spotify.

On the topic- I have been on a Kyuss kick lately and running through their albums on heavy rotation. Great starter band to get someone into this genre

It's awesome. If you find an obscure band you like, just look at all the similar artists and you'll find yourself exposed to some great music that you would have a hard time finding anywhere outside of streaming services.

Of course you could do the same with popular stuff, too.

I feel like Blues for the Red Sun is considered the classic album by them, but I think Welcome to Sky Valley is better.

My favorite albums this year, relevant to this thread anyway, are
Pelican - Nighttime Stories
Spotlights - Love and Decay
Crypt Sermon - The Ruins of Fading Light

That Crypt Sermon album is on most of the best of 2019 lists from all the big metal sites. The new Spirit Adrift album got a lot of praise from critics too. Its pretty good but I like the others better.
