Can't actually say Steely Dan was a band since they had different people on each album. But, they have always been a go to for anything that comes up in life! And "Royal Scam" has always been a personal favorite of mine ..... Their music is ageless......

Fagen is a king hell of a songwriter ... one of my favorite lyricists. As for the Dan, one of the many things I admire about them is they achieved success without rock star looks or glam. They made it on the strength of their music—on their own terms.

The Big Dil, comes from The Naked Lunch or some other Burroughs novel, correct?

Not sure what this is, but I 's pretty sure it was a giant metal dildo out of some book so you might be right.

Steely Dan- FM (No Static At All)

Great song, but great movie that no one I know today has seen. FM, about an independent radio station resisting advertising, with some great concerts scenes in it.

Other underrated, little popular play favorites of mine:

Becker and Fagen are geniuses for sure, but it helped that they hired the best studio musicians. All the famous guitar solos and many other memorable instrumental moments are due to other musicians. I don't know how much was improvised on the spot vs. composed, and how exactly Becker and Fagen determined the overall sound; I'd really love to see a "making of" video for their albums.

You should google the "wrecking crew". You would be surprised to fing out how much of the recorded hit music out there was not played by the original artists.

When I've seen them live, they always play Bodhisattva. It & My Old School are 2 of their few uptempo songs.

Major Song. Does anyone get the great love that Haitian Divorce gets? I like the song, but it doesn't knock my socks off.

Did anyone mention Midnight Cruiser? Another great tune that's not often mentioned.

Did they ever do any major tours, or just studio?
