I don't exactly get the analogy, but I laughed. I picked up a cheap yamaha electric after getting comfortable with the classical. It worked for me.

Snark, and it's even less than that. I had a Korg and something else before the blue Snark, and they didn't work worth a crap. The Snark doesn't dance around as much, and it reliably tunes the low E.

MBD. I had to pay $20 for one at a Hastings because it was Sunday and the guitars stores were closed. I knew I was getting done dirty.

+1 My first guitar had action that was so high I had to put a capo on the first fret to bring it down to a tolerable level. If I hadn't already been so dead set on learning I could easily see that pushing someone away.

Not a bad idea, I bought a real nice Larrivee L-03 off CL last year. No matter what though—and I'm sure this has already been suggested—the OP should check out guitars with a guitar-playing friend in tow. That way, he has a knowledgable person on his side when evaluating instruments. That's what I did when I got my first decent guitar, a Taylor 110, and the tips my 2 friends gave me helped me make a good choice.
Having a guitar-playing friend along is especially important if you're a guitar novice checking out instruments on CL, etc.—IMO.

Best advise...I've been playing guitar a long time and when a parent ask me what type of guitar to get they kid I always tell them that if you go with price alone and the guitar is difficult to fret, you're just wasting your money.

Used watever you do. I'd get a squire strat like others have said. Easier to start on. I've rarely been in a pawn shop that didn't have one. You can get a guitar and an amp for less than 150. Old line 6 Spider II 15 watt amps are cheap and abundant too. They are lots of fun to experiment with "your sound" when starting out too.
If heart set on acoustic id look for a used Yamaha or epiphone or fender in your price range
