Someone recommend an acoustic guitar.

Thinking about picking up the guitar. Something to keep me busy.
Not an OT baller/Still in college.

I got a Mitchell as my first acoustic (besides the fender classical acoustic pawn guitar I learned on). It had a nice sound.

You can get a decent fender for that price. Martins are the best IMO though

it really doesn't matter. there are countless brands that will be suitable for a beginner. get something used that plays well and sounds decent. your budget is fine.

I chose a Taylor over a martin just based on preference, but they are definitely... ehem... neck and neck.

I started out with a 200$ Ibanez and loved it. If you can help, try not to skimp un-necessarily. Keeping it tuned with crappy hardware sucks

I pick a garrison and love it. However it was a birthday gift and a good bit more than $200. I would imagine you could find a good beginner's model from any of the main suppliers for that price though.

Spend a little more if you can. Alvarez RD8 in the $200 range was my first guitar. Still have it but play my Breedlove more than any of them.

I would include Mitchell in the selection of guitars you play in your price range. It's all about what you like when you're playing. Usually one or two will stand out to you.

I've bought several guitars over the years for myself and others. I would really suggest going online and looking for a B-Stock guitar. B-Stock means they have a slight chip in the finish or maybe a thumbprint, but still pass all the other quality control. You can get these guitars for about 1/2 to 2/3 of the retail price of an A-Stock and you get the same guitar.

Any reason you don't want to learn on an electric? They are easier to learn on unless you just want to play open chords and stuff

I really suggest a used one. a new one will become used anyway, you'll save a lot, and you don't even know if you'll stick with it. look on Craigslist, eBay, the used sections of music stores like guitar center, and reputable pawn shops.
