great song and heralded as one of the most well produced and layered songs ever. I heard it was used in the 90's at Electronics Stores to sell surround sound systems for how much depth it had

So the song "Charlie Freak" is a REALLY good song
I love when I listen to a relatively new artist (to me anyway) and find a deep cut on an album that really clicks with me

fagen's 'the nightfly' is essential, but his other solo albums are worthy too. 'kamakiriad' is by all intents an unofficial steely dan album, since walter becker produced it & played bass...

I tried firing one up awhile back but it never caught on...I'm looking to share and learn about more chillwave artists

yea, probably because there are only like six posters on this website with good taste in music. hard to get good threads going

And I also strongly agree about Fagan's solo album The Nightfly, its basically a Steely Dan album. Green Flower Street and IGY are great songs.
I always loved "The Goodbye Look". The lyrics crack me up, and the music is just so damn bouncy.

They are easily one of my favorite bands. They are a unique fusion of jazz, funk, blues, pop and rock. They sound oh so good live as well. They are probably the best concert I have seen yet... oh yeah, they are true lyrical geniuses as well.
Grab a glass of wine or bourbon, kick back and start off with these and see what you like...
Steely Dan - Black Cow
Steely Dan - Home at Last
Steely Dan - Showbiz Kids
Steely Dan - Josie
Steely Dan - Fire in the hole
Steely Dan - Kings
Steely Dan - Time Out Of Mind
Steely Dan - Pretzel Logic
Steely Dan - The Royal Scam
Steely Dan - Your Gold Teeth
Steely Dan - Your Gold teeth ii

My favorite off The Nightfly is either the title track or New Frontier. The Nightfly (song) is about a late-night jazz and talk show DJ. The way he worked in the radio jingle (Double-u jay ay zeeeeee) is brilliant. New Frontier is about a party in a fallout shelter. The part where he's talking to a girl he likes about Brubeck and he slips in "I like your eyes, I like him too." is very clever.

the worst line in music history? the best!
i have never read up on what the lyrics mean, but I think this song has some of the all time best, in fact the lyrics are one of the major draws of this band (Captain Obvious)
Excepts:
"...On the hill the stuff was laced with kerosene
But yours was kitchen clean
Everyone stopped to stare at your technicolor motor home
Every A-Frame had your number on the wall
You must have had it all
You'd go to L.A. on a dare
And you'd go it alone..."
"you'd go to L A on a dare and you'd go it alone..." pretty classic
and this:
"...Clean this mess up else we'll all end up in jail
Those test tubes and the scale
Just get them all out of here
Is there gas in the car
Yes, there's gas in the car
I think the people down the hall
Know who you are
Careful what you carry
'Cause the man is wise
You are still an outlaw in their eyes"
many people from the 70's (and others)have had this exact experience
"is there gas in the car? yes there's gas in the car"
they are on the run
