This weekend

Here. Or at least right down the road. Always a good time, and I can't imagine how slammed the new Back Forty location is going to be, given that it's right across the street from the entrance.

Went to the Back Forty soft opening the other night. It's a great new addition to town, and the food was really good. Still not crazy about their beer, but I'll go there again for sure.
No Slossfest for me this year. The only act I really want to see is War On Drugs, and I've seen them before. I'll go Sunday night if a free ticket lands in my lap.

What food did you get there? Going tonight.

We had poutine for the table of 3 of us. I had a chicken sandwich. Buddy had a burger that looked fantastic, and his wife just had a salad.
They're supposedly going to have some pub only beer selections soon, but they just had their standard ones the other night, except the Freckle Belly IPA. Not sure why it wasn't available.

Man they knocked that place out of the park. It may be my new favorite brewery in Birmingham as far as atmosphere and everything goes. The Heffe was pretty decent and I like the Honey Brown. Not a big fan of the other beers they had, but they said they will be bringing more to the menu as they become fully open. They are still technically in a soft opening.
Chicken sandwich was delicious. Great amount of food for the price. Lamb Burger was very good as well.
It will be a shite show this weekend, but definitely worth checking out if you can if you're going to Sloss Fest. It is right across the street.

Yeah, I wish their beers were a little better, but the food is a big enough draw to go. I do really like their Peach Wheat on a hot day, and the Pale Ale is decent. Everything else is pretty meh.

Was talking to the owners last night, and they said that they are trying to get the ability to do the peanut butter porter that they brewed for Beer Engineers. They already make a cake with it as one of their desserts. If they do, I'll be so happy. I loved that beer.

I know a guy that works for them, and he mentioned something about that. I didn't care for the peanut butter stout they made recently. Could barely taste the peanut butter.
He gave me a 12 pack of that red, white and blue IPA pack they did for the 4th of July a year or two ago. The red IPA in it was actually really good. I don't like white IPAs generally, so didn't care for it, and the blue one was just their Freckle Belly which is just okay.

Yea I didn't like it either. If they can make the porter they did for BE, it would be awesome. One of my favorite peanut butter beers.

And this is reason 2,731 why I moved to BHM... thread starts out about our marquee music festival, and a beer & food chat breaks out.
Back to music: don't sleep on Margo Price and Brent Cobb, plus personal fave Will Stewart.

Eh it is related enough. Place is across the street from Sloss. If you don't make it part of your Sloss Fest experience, you're missing out.

Went back to Back 40 last night. Had the wings. Would not get again. They were tiny, but they made up for it by giving you a bunch. Flavor was just okay. Should have gotten the chicken sandwich again.
They added their Snapper Biscuit White IPA to their beer list while we were there. Guy said they should have full tap menu available by the end of next weekend.

Yea, I didn't like the wings that much. Definitely get the Medium instead of the mild. The medium was pretty decent taste wise (though small like you said) IMO, but considering there are so many better wing choices out there, will probably avoid getting.
Also, to whoever said see Griz, agreed. They will be a great show.

Behind their brewing equipment they had a brew schedule showing all the beers they'll eventually have. There was a Red Ale, a NE style IPA, a double IPA, and their peanut butter porter that were not yet available.
I think there were a couple more, but I couldn't make them out.
To get back on topic, a Sunday ticket materialized for me so I think I'm gonna go see War On Drugs and St Paul & The Broken Bones then head home.

What a complete shitshow. Gotta think this is the last year for this fest. So glad I stayed on the couch yesterday instead of venturing down there to try to catch the War On Drugs set.
