I've seen them live 3 times I think, and they put on a great show all 3 times (albeit the same show, they don't really have a big catalog to choose from)
I guess they are my one appreciation of Red Dirt.

I like calling it Americana, it doesn't sound country, no steel guitar, but is reminiscent of some old country duets. Doesn't sound Folk, no fiddle. I like these two. Sometimes their voice sounds like Bob Dylan, the way they strain their vowels.

You live in the old world where genre's have defining characteristics. Nowadays, I'll have someone recommend me an "indie folk" band that turns out to be practically EDM.

They really remind me of the Jack White/Loretta Lynn collaboration, Van Lear Rose. Like... some of the songs basically sound like they're from that album.

Heard them for the first time on ACL about a month ago. I've worn out O Be Joyful since then. Love them.
Something really appealing to me about a two person band. The only thing missing is slide. Jack had somebody else play it on TWS until he mastered it for DS. Maybe Trent can do the same.

I like them. I think Americana is fine, but it's obviously got southern/country/folk influences. Of course, a lot of what I consider country (Texas country) doesn't have steel guitar, and things I consider folk (Dylan, for example) don't use a fiddle.

They're not red dirt in the slightest.
Just because it has an alt-country sound does not mean its red dirt guys

No doubt, I love alt-country, but have never been a fan of the red dirt sound...

I don't hate it but its not my favorite. I much prefer a more folk influenced sound and I really like the punk influenced alt-country like Lucero

Yep, a lot of the alt country sounds that I grew up listening to was born out of punk rockers getting older and going in a different direction... I'll always contend that those 4 Uncle Tupelo records are the pinnacle...
I also like traditional country and a lot of the old Texas singer songwriter type stuff... As well as the California sound...

I agree with all of this.
Traditional country is my favorite by far
