Friend of mine posted a music video of hers (100 Days, 100 Nights) an hour ago, apparently right after she died. Never heard of her and checked it out. Loved it, and have been listening to her for the past hour. Googled her to see her tour dates, and the first thing that comes up was her death. So pissed.

It's the exact same situation that happened when I discovered Eva Cassidy, except Cassidy had died over 15 years before I discovered her.

Was lucky enough to see her live a couple of times. Fantastic performer. Sad year for many beloved musicians.

quote:

In fact, as the Dap-Kings’ Gabriel Roth tells The LA Times, Jones suffered the first of the two strokes that would hasten her death while sitting at home watching the election results at November 8. “She told the people that were [at the hospital] that Trump gave her the stroke,” Roth says. “She was blaming Trump for the whole thing.”

I didn't know who Sharon Jones was until I looked her up last year after one of my favorite new artist did this cover last year of 100 Days 100 Nights, which is actually quite a bit better than the original in my opinion.
