Who do you got for a tragic ending?

Fast tragedy? Obviously any of the plane crash ones - particularly Otis Redding because he was about to become a HUGE star.

Slow tragedy? Layne Staley or EVH. Incomparable talents taken down by a combination of personal demons, prolonged self-abuse.

The term "beloved artist" seems to be a little loose in this thread.

Tom Petty not being mentioned (nor Prince) is crazy. Tom toured with a broken hip that got so bad that he was downing painkillers just to be manageable. He kept touring because he didn't want to cancel any shows and disappoint his fans. Unfortunately, he waited too long and overdosed accidentally, Doctors saw the gap in the crack of his hip and couldn't believe he went as long as he did.

Neil Peart retired from drumming in 2015 and was excited to spend all his time with his wife and young daughter.

Within a year he finds out he has terminal brain cancer and spends his last few years being eaten up by that awful disease.

Another one has got to be Marvin Gaye. I mean he was shot and murdered by his father. Doesn’t get much sadder than that.

It is sadder than that. The more I look into it, it was "suicide by dad".

Poor St Tom. You need to read up on Tom Petty and his band.

Dennis Wilson....the balls and soul of the Beach Boys and one hell of an underrated drummer. His death coupled with Brian's withdrawal allowed My Glove to fully take over the group and turn it into a county fair disgrace.
