I think it's because he doesn't seem mad about being known as a one hit wonder and meme. He seems to have a sense of humor about it and just does his thing.
He's always had a great voice and you can see in that cover he hasn't lost his voice at all.

He has his own sub Reddit dedicated to him making fun of himself. He definitely embraced that whole situation.
It’s also impossible to deny the absolute over the top genius 80s perfection the music video for Never Gonna Give You Up was.
