Is my memory of the song faulty? I remember buying Bowie's Greatest Hits and that song was on it... and I was like WTF is this crap, I've never heard this before, what's it doing on this CD.

And then, eventually, it turned into my favorite Bowie song.

You mean Modern Love?

Probably wouldnt make my top 30 list of Bowie songs, but its a good track.

He does downplay alot of his 80s stuff. He hates "Lets Dance"...says he thinks dancing is stupid.

When Bowie is good, he's really good. When he's bad, he's terrible. Modern Love, China Girl, etc are just terrible, terrible songs.

Where did he say this? Check out youtube... Bowie on the Dinah Shore show performing Stay. I think he likes to dance. Dude has got some moves.

But the guitar playing (SRV) on this album is stellar.

I stand corrected. Whether he dances or not, most of his music is badass.

China Girl is an Iggy tune, and Iggy does it well. Iggy wasn´t at his best, but it was more than OK. Bowie´s version was spot on for the 80´s, spot on.

you are correct, Sir. I´m still trying to find SRV´s ´Cracked Actor´rendition live on that tour, I´ve heard it was stellar.

Yes, in the sense that the 80s had some of the most dreadful music of all time

I don't know---for their time I thought "Let's Dance", "Modern Love", "China Girl", "Blue Jean" were good songs.

Better at least than most of the crap coming out back then.

Obviously not "Classic" Bowie, but I still liked 'em.

My 14 year old daughter told me she "loves Bowie" last week.
I had no idea she even knew who he was.

I think 'Blue Jean' is a very good song! I also like this cover of Iggy Pop's 'Neighborhood Threat' off the Tonight album.
