Hi Music Board,
I'm looking for an new artist or record to wear out in the coming weeks. I've recently been spinning The Gaslight Anthem discography along with a lot of the The Menzingers 'On the Impossible Past'.
It's typically the Springsteen-Ian moments that's make those bands sounds come alive for me. I dig the music that can reach back to days when I was a teenager and can stir up some of that nostalgia and endless Saturday night invincibility.
What are some recommendations? Closest I've recently come is The Menzingers 'On the Impossible Past', The Gaslight Anthem's t59s and American Slang. fricking love those records. Strangely, also been digging the 1975's self titled.
Thoughts?
Inb4 shitty music, etc.

They have to be new as in recent, or just new to you?
Just discovered this band:
Kokomo Kings - "Girls I've Never Kissed"
Kelley Stoltz - "Are you my love"
Here's something a bit older:
The Woggles - "Its Not About What I Want (Its What You Got)" -- one of the guys in this band, the Mighty Manfred, is a DJ on Little Steven's Underground Garage channel on SiriusXM

Titus Andronicus sounds exactly like what you are looking for.
Start with The Monitor.
Start with The Monitor.

Murder by Death - A Masters in Reverse Psychology
The entire album this song comes from, "Who Will Survive and What Will Be Left of Them?", is phenomenal.

Tried to listen to them yesterday off a recommendation and I just couldn't get into it. I'll try again and we'll see.

Interesting. I'm not overly familiar with Gaslight Anthem or the Menzingers, but from everything I've heard by or about them, I would have thought Titus would be right up your alley.
Another newer band that I think is great and gives off Springsteen vibes is The War on Drugs.
The War on Drugs- Red Eyes
Not quite as new (mid 00s), but equally great is The Hold Steady
The Hold Steady- Stuck Between Stations

The horrible crowes - Elise
Brian Fallon is the lead singer of both. He also has a solo album, painkillers, which is pretty good
Cory branan - entire catalog
Lucero - same

I doubt I have anything that fits into your genre, although I absolutely relate to teenage nostalgia.
For a general rec, I surprisingly really like Hamilton Leithauser + Rostam and it gets a lot of play at our house. Usually I'm quick to judge an album, but that one just kept growing on me.
I say surprisingly because I don't care that much for Vampire Weekend or The Walkmen.

The Germs - Germicide. Very similar in style to Gaslight Anthem.

The Monitor is my favorite album of all time. Give it another go. (Theme From Cheers is also my favorite drinking song of all time and gets regular airplay at my bar when I'm closing up shop and get to have a shot and beer.)
Since someone mentioned Real Estate, I'll add for them, Alex Bleeker and the Freaks.
Back to the OP some bands,
Lord Huron, TTR
Rural Alberta Advantage, (you'll either love or hate the lead singers voice. I'll understand one way or the other.) Start w/ their first album. DHTP
Wolf Parade, YAARIAMFS
The National, DSTC
LCD Soundsystem, AMF
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, SOMYCT
Blitzen Trapper, Furr
Mountain Goats, This Year
None of these bands are exactly like Gaslight Anthem. I also didn't include all the main Pitchfork darlings of the Aughts, like Band Of Horses, Hold Steady (though their first few albums are some incredible and well thought out music), Animal Collective. Admittedly, most of the bands I mentioned, do get some great reviews.
I'm a bit older now and don't follow music like I did ten years ago.
One random band that I used to love, Birdmonster. Their first album was great. ATHITW

Me and the old man got us a head start on the weekend

Yes!
I'll pour the shots as I hit play and make everyone wait until, "I need a whiskey, I need a whiskey right now." (It's the only TA song my co-workers know, haha.)
I know you mentioned THS earlier in this thread. Been listening to Separation Sunday again recently. Finn tells such a great story.
Is there a thread on great concept albums?

Finn is one of the best lyricist around. They have some great drinking songs too.
We've had concept album threads on here before, not sure if any recently though.
