Fantastic band. Toy Caldwell was one of the great artists that died way too young.

Doug has a great soul and has always been about those in his presence.
Humility, greatfullnes and a true gentleman.
As far as the Marshall Tucker Band it was just a lucky star that the music industry was granted for all to enjoy and appreciate.

Caught the interview last night and as usual, Rather gets the most out of his guest. The band has long been one of my favs since the 70's, saw them live many times (could make a 5 minute song last 30 and still be good) and just love their music Lyrics of life, simple things that are so easy to relate to and just damn good drinking music..

Just my opinion and not meant to upset anyone, but you can tell Rather doesn’t know much about music in these interviews.

It’s almost like he’s conducting the interview for a teeny bopper fan magazine.

BTW...have always enjoyed MTB

The rock artist he COULD interview that would have been in his youth are all dead. Elvis, Buddy Holly in addition he’s a Texas boy. So he was probably heavily into C&W. Hank SR or Johnny Cash might be people he could geek out over. He’s to old for anyone now. Unless you bring out some old Original Opry star who’s still alive. I can’t think of one though.

Second concert that I ever went to, New Year's Eve (1975 I think). Civic center in Huntsville, Al. Marshall Tucker Band, Winter Brothers Band, and Charlie Daniels Band. It was a great show.

Have to admit I’m an old hard rock/ metal head who really enjoys Marshall Tucker Band. Love Fire on the Mountain.

They were pretty unique, with a rhythm that set them apart, leaning towards a Western Swing/Jazz fusion on some stuff, and then throwing in the woodwind. They were really good.

You must be blind and deaf.

In actuality, he's very well versed in both the music and the history of the bands or people he interviews. His interviews with Robbie Kreiger and John Densmore, Roger Waters, and Robert Plant especially underscore that.

Your powers of perception leave a lot to be desired

If you did even they most basic research you'd see his long time appreciation of several different genres.

The most singularly amazing thing about Dan Rather's interviews with these musicians has been the unmistakable fact that they are more in awe of him then he is with them. Like Robert Plant and Roger Waters both said, they were watching the news when he was on the ground in Vietnam reporting from the frontlines . He has a built in level of respect from these amazing artists that no other interviewer will have.
