The issue isn’t capitalism, but crony capitalism. Regulatory changes to IP and how music and entertainment is distributed have resulted in massive consolidation of the entertainment industry. 95% of the nation’s radio stations, major record labels, movie studios, tv networks, newspapers, isp’s, streaming services, etc are owned by like 6 companies. There’s so much incest and circular dealing in determining what songs become “hits” and penetrate pop culture that the barriers to entry for an aspiring musician to truly “break out” are basically impossible unless you’re in the “in” crowd.
The only way for the vast majority of bands to make a living at music is through live performances, and there’s all kinds of scaling issues with making it to the point that tours can be profitable. It’s extremely difficult to make a living on live performances if you’re not an act that got popular prior to 2000. That’s not even counting how much of a stranglehold on venues and booking is held by livenation and their network of regional promoters.

You're correct. I think that it is a natural devolution of the system, but that's a debate for another board.
Either way: these massive media companies are absolutely the cancer and it is incredibly sad.

The issue is that mass media and mass consumption give people what they want.
People like shite.

You got the “cancer” part right. Where you fricked up is calling that shite “musical”. There ain’t a stitch of music in any of that shite and further, none of those clowns have any talent. Rap is the fricking scourge of the earth, pure and simple.

I dunno, I think that better regulation of these massive media companies or further public investment in the arts could be answers to combat the issue.

I just don't understand how someone can genuinely say that this isn't music or is void of talent.

No, they don’t. Media has gotten so consolidated that they no longer have to figure out what people want and provide it. Instead, they tell people what to want because they don’t have any real choices.
Here’s how it works: the media creates these cliques that people are supposed to fit into, then creates content meant to condition folks to accept that identity and markets products to them that define membership in that clique. For “country” folks, it’s shiny red gm trucks, light beer, and wrangler blue jeans. For indie rockers, it’s suburu’s, flannel, birkenstocks, and craft beer. Even classic rock stations do the same things. They’re conditioning people to make them fit into an easily categorized box that can be marketed to by usurping personality traits and interests with brand names.

This is absolutely the correct answer
In recent memory we have literally seen producers and labels have "artists" muttering unintelligible sounds and words over jungle beats and package it as high art
Have some hoodrat create a dance for it on tik tok and BOOM

I'm not a huge fan of rap or most hip hop, but most of it at least has some soul and emotion to it. Can't say the same for bro country.
Bro country = Country rap
Country rap = (C)rap

Hip hop as a whole ended when Tupac & Biggie both got capped.
This is just dumb. I don't listen to a lot of rap, but there is some very good music coming out of that genre these days. Like all genres, the more popular side is generally terrible from a musical and lyrical standpoint, but leave the heavily beaten path and there is a very good music being made.
Go listen to the album You're Dead! by Flying Lotus and report back. Go listen to To Pimp a Butterfly from Kendrick Lamar and try to make an argument for not being better than 99% of the music on pop/country/current rock charts.

Hip-Hop is so cheap to produce because there is nothing to it.
Again, You're Dead by Flying Lotus has more complex musical arrangements and better musicianship than 99.9% of all billboard charting hits.
Yes, there is a lot of really bad, really dumb rap in the sphere of popularity, but you can substitute country/rock/pop/dance/electronic in place of rap and the statement still holds true.
